Abisko valley hike 2000x1125

Abisko valley hike

…a full-day Abisko hike towards iconic mountainformations

Full day hike in Abisko valley

This guided tour is a full day hike with the goal to get up above the tree-line in Abisko valley.
Along the way on the hiking trails in Abisko we will pass trough the carracteristic small hills called nabbar wich are remnants from the melitings of the ice sheet during the ice age. These nabbar provides for some spectacular viewpoints over the valley and the mountains. During the hike you will also discover the shifting in vegetation from the lusch birch forest close to the village, to the smal, resiliant and wind-affected plants above the tree-line.

By mid-day we will take a brake for some lunch and some rest before we head back towards the village again. Hopefully alot closer to Lapporten or Tjuonavagge wich is a large and very characteristic U-valley that was formed during the ice age and is one of Sweden’s most famous mountain formations.

Besides Lapporten you vill be able to come closer to som more peaks in the Abisko-alps as well as some offering places that are an importat part of Sapmi cultural history. In the west you will have a great overview over the north part of Abisko Nationalpark and Swedens bigest mountain-lake, Torneträsk.

Because it is unusually dry and calcareous for being a mountain terrain in Abisko, the area is sometimes called an Arctic desert, and as such there is a rich mountain flora here where several unusual and protected species thrive. Abisko also has a rich wildlife, Moose, hare, wolverine, lemming, stoat, grey heron, reindeer, fox and even lynx have been seen. Several bird species also thrive in the area. Valley ptarmigan, mountain buzzard, kestrel, mountain ibis, tawny owl, short-eared owl, blue jay, grey siskin and snow sparrow are possible to see. Many ornithologists are also here in the area to see northern warblers which have nesting sites in the Abisko Valley.

An incredible experience. We had a mix of recreational rock climbers and inexperienced climbers, and they were amazing at meeting everyone where they were and maintaining safety the entire time. I would 100% recommend to anyone. Wonderful people, great experience.

Ice climbing with Robin was a blast! We were a group of 5, and it was just us, so that was nice. Robin was easy going and friendly. He picked us up from our hotel at Abisko Turiststation and nice enough to drop us in Abisko downtown. We enjoyed our time. Recommended!

I did the snowshoe hike (as a total beginner) with Abisko Adventure and enjoyed it a lot! The guide Robin was very kind and gave interesting informations during the whole hike. And even if it was cloudy and snowing that day, I still got to see beautiful views. I highly recommend!

I went ice climbing with Robin and Rebecca, and it was an amazing experience from start to finish! If I could give this more than 5 stars I would! Since it was most of our first time ice climbing, they did a detailed briefing on how to ice climb. Then even when we were climbing, they would also guide us through the climb when we needed it. They really did look after us very well throughout the whole tour, thank you both again!

An incredible introductory ice climbing experience! We were picked up in their campervans at the Abisko tourist office and taken a few kilometers away to an area with an ice wall near the road to try ice climbing with crampons and ice axes. The guides had everything very well organized regarding equipment: they provided us with alpine boots, harnesses, and helmets with headlamps. They explained how to use the equipment and even fitted the crampons for us. They demonstrated how to proceed with ice climbing safely and then secured us with their ropes. The guides were friendly and even encouraged the participants. At the end, they took us back to the pick-up point. The activity lasted a total of 3 hours. Perfectly suitable and safe for people who have never done ice climbing or traditional climbing before.

If you enjoy climbing, this is your unique opportunity to do it on a waterfall. It's definitely a 10/10 for me, and the instructors are wonderful and incredibly motivating. Don't worry, if you're inexperienced, they have different levels, from beginner to expert. ☺️
